On August 4th, 2020 the largest non-nuclear explosion in history tore through Beirut and decimated entire neighborhoods, leaving over 250,000 residents in the dark.

Light Reach and Lebanese activist and lighting designer Manal Kahale partnered to bring solar-powered lights to Beirut. Our ground team truly exemplifies the can-do spirit of the Lebanese people, who have mobilized to clean up and rebuild in place of the government, and our proven, replicable, scalable model can quickly provide illumination without waiting for the grid to be reconstructed.

The Light Reach Network is raising funds to purchase solar-powered lights to distribute to those who were left in the dark after the horrific explosion, when the already unstable electrical grid was completely destroyed in many neighborhoods. While there are thankfully many NGOs on the ground distributing food and medicine, we are all specially attuned to the perils of life without light. Many are living in homes with missing or broken doors and windows, and the streets are still full of rubble and broken glass, making the darkness treacherous and compounding the trauma of the blast. Light Reach’s proven model can immediately provide illumination without waiting for restoration of the grid.
